Coolie Cool. As the Fanfare and STGW promo trains continue to run their course,  The Blast have thankfully continued to fill any and all of my gaps of free time with dopeness.   Coming to Taipei this Friday, I’m proud to announce that we’ll be hosting the legendary Icy Ice of The World Famous Beat Junkies as a part of our new series at Marquee Taipei.  If you’re only going out 5 times this month, make this one of’em.  That’s my word. GUESS WHO’S BACK. After a brief hibernation,  the Worst Pop Band Ever returns to the Rex Hotel every Tuesday in March (6:30-8:30pm), in support of their latest EP, “Sometimes Things Go Wrong (and other songs we shouldn’t play)”. The five song EP, recorded live at the Cellar in Vancouver, features 4 covers including, Radiohead’s “High and Dry” (last performed as part of Now Magazine’s and Harbourfront Centre’s Soundclash).  Even though, their last album, ”Dost Thou Believeth in Science“ received both national and international acclaim from traditional and online media and even reached  #28 on Canadian College Radio Chart – Earshot,  the band decided to try something different and do a digital only release this time out. In an effort to thank fans, they will be releasing a different single each week in March for free from their BANDCAMP.  The full album can also be purchased on iTunes if you’d prefer.  Despite the band name, the band has been a mainstay of the Toronto jazz scene and the individual members have played with a who’s who of the Canadian Music Scene, from Feist to the Shuffle Demons; Tanika Charles to Amanda Martinez - two of them even managed to win Junos. The band consists of Chris Gale on Sax, Adrean Farrugia on Keys, Drew Birston on Bass, Tim Shia on drums and LEO37 on turntables.  Check the calendar to your right for dates in your city! With the new EP just around the corner, MAGNOLIUS invites visual artists worldwide to partake in the official“Selaron” Music Video Contest.  Participants of all skill levels are encouraged to visually interpret the closing track from the group’s award winning sophomore release “Mary Musth”. The winner will receive $1000 (US), as well as potentially have the video broadcast in Canada, US & Brazil. Contest details and guidelines can be found at MAGNOLIUS.com

“Having previously been referred to as ‘one of the most original sounds in Canada.’ by Exclaim! Magazine, Fanfare serves as a reintroduction for LEO37 to the Canadian and International music scene. Having spent the better part of the last 5 years touring (including – all self-booked — 3 Canadian tours, Amsterdam, Ireland, 20 cities across the U.S. as well as 7 countries in Asia), LEO37 felt it necessary to fully hone his skills on stages all over the world before finally releasing the first single and video from his new EP, also titled, “Fanfare”. The video features animation and direction from PPF House head and current Disney collaborator Howie Shia, whose resume has earned him awards from film festivals across the globe (including the Tokyo International Anime Fair Grand Prize and Best Short Film at Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival) as well as mentions on Kanye West’s blog for his video with eletronic composer, Deru (Avatar, the Last Airbender: Animated Series).”
